FG Approves N33,000 Monthly Allowance For Corps Members    T he Federal Government has approved the payment of N33,000 as monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, disclosed this during a session with some corps members at the service’s Bauchi State Secretariat. Brigadier General Ibrahim, who was on a working visit to the state, cleared the air on the amount approved as monthly allowance for corps members. He explained that the approval was made in line with the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage by the Federal Government. Ibrahim noted that contrary to the various amounts being circulated on social media, the sum of N33,000 had been approved as the new rate. The new course is theme; 'Basic Communications in French' with course code of GSS123. Lectures take effect from the 2019/20 Academic Session. JAMB suspends NIN as requirement for UTME registrations

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) as a requirement for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration. The suspension also affected the Direct Entry registration for the year, Punch reports. While announcing this on Saturday, January 11, 2020, JAMB Registrar, at a press conference in Abuja, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the decision was taken due to difficulties being faced by candidates in the NIN registration. He added that the NIN would, however, be a necessary requirement in the 2021 UTME and Direct Entry registrations.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Monday announced dates for commencement of the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME). The JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, announced the date during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja. Oloyede said the UTME will commence between March 14 and April 14. He also stated that an optional mock examination for candidates would also take place on February 18, 2020. Registration for the exams will start on January 13 and end on February 17. The examination board had earlier announced that only candidates with National Identity Number will be registered for the 2020 UTME. “All candidates wishing to take the 2020 UTME must have the National Identification Number (NIN),” JAMB tweeted on October 15th. “The Board would ONLY register candidates with NIN.” The board also stated that all payments should be made directly to the board and warned against unauthorised financial transactions with its staff. ...

5,000 homeless as fire guts Akwa Ibom fishing community No fewer than 2,000 houses have been burnt and over 5,000 people rendered homeless following a fire incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday at Iwoukpom community in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as at press time but our correspondent confirmed properties worth millions have been destroyed in the fishing community mostly occupied by Yoruba fishermen. Most of the buildings were constructed with wood, increasing the fatality as fishing equipment and fishes were burnt. It was also not known immediately if lives were lost. Loud wailings from victims were heard as the recounted their losses. Mrs. Idongesit Udoh, a mother of three children was crying and waling that she could not picked a pin before the inferno rendered her homeless. “The entire building was raised completely and I could not pick a pin in the house,” she lamented.
